CONWAY — Filmmakers Casey Coleman and Nathan Harrison, two of the producers of “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, will host a workshop and screening at the University of Central Arkansas’s Stanley Russ Hall on Thursday, March 19.

The workshop, “Creating Your Own Career Path in Film and the Arts”, is set for 5-6:15 p.m. in room 103. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” will screen at 7 p.m., also in Stanley Russ 103, with a Q&A to follow.

The visit is in conjunction with both the Little Rock Film Festival and Arkansas Times; all events are free and open to the public.

“We’re very lucky to have both Casey and Nathan coming to campus to visit with our students and screen ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’,” said Dr. Bruce Hutchinson, director of graduate studies and associate professor of digital filmmaking. “While the film is rightly known for all its awards and accolades, it is also notable for the collective approach the filmmakers took to making it.”

The movie won the Camera d’Or at Cannes, was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and won many other awards.

Coleman is the executive director of Court 13 Arts. He has been a working filmmaker in New Orleans for eight years, having roles that include newlywed, being rhythm guitar and bongo player for Rory Danger and the Danger Dangers, and an amazing uncle for several young children.

Harrison is an associate producer for Court 13 films in New Orleans. His daily work duties have included wrangling livestock, salvaging sinking boats and searching for child superstars in small towns throughout Louisiana.

“Their group, Court 13, provides a unique and inspiring model for filmmaking and the arts in general, and we’re excited to have them share their experiences with our students,” Hutchinson said.
