The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) recently announced the addition of University of Central Arkansas professor Stephanie Vanderslice to its board of directors.
Vanderslice began her four-year term on Nov. 7 and serves as the southern regional chair for the organization. She and eight others received a unanimous vote in October to join the AWP board.
At UCA, Vanderslice is a professor of creative writing and director of the Arkansas Writers MFA Workshop. She has published six books. Her fiction and nonfiction works have appeared in several journals and online publications.
She was named the 2012 Arkansas Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Vanderslice earned a Bachelor of Arts at Connecticut College, a Master of Fine Arts at George Mason University and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
