The University of Central Arkansas’s Student Led Therapeutic Activity Program (S-TAP) Art Show will be held Monday, Dec. 8, from 5-6:30 p.m. All the art featured in this show was produced by S-TAP participants and guided by the Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) curriculum.
The art show is free and open to the public and will be held in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center on the UCA campus.
S-TAP is an innovative program that helps meet needs of individuals at risk for or who are experiencing cognitive decline and their caregivers. Students from the UCA College of Health and Behavioral Sciences provide weekly interprofessional evidence-based therapeutic activities to participants. Not only do these activities enhance participant function, cognition and quality of life, but they also provide respite for participant caregivers.
OMA is an evidence-based intergenerational program that pairs university students with older adults for one-on-one visual art-making sessions, focusing on creative expression, autonomy and social engagement. This curriculum differs from traditional arts and crafts by using an abstract, failure-free approach that empowers individuals with dementia to make their own choices and create unique artwork.
S-TAP sponsors include the Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative (AGEC) and The Center for Dementia Respite Innovation.
