The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble will showcase the world premiere of “Double Concerto for Trumpet Trombone and Antiphonal Wind Ensemble” in a joint concert with the Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in Reynolds Performance Hall.

The Wind Ensemble commissioned the original piece from well-known composer Tony Plog, who will be in attendance for the concert.

On Friday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m., the Wind Ensemble will perform “Double Concerto for Trumpet Trombone and Antiphonal Wind Ensemble” at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) South West Division Conference at the University of Oklahoma. The ensemble was one of only eight bands selected out of 27 applicants who auditioned for the 2020 conference.

Ricky Brooks, professor and director of bands at UCA, will conduct the performance. UCA trumpet professor Ross Ahlhon and trombone professor Justin Cook will be featured as soloists. Music faculty members Allison Moore and Lorraine Duso Kitts will be featured in the third movement from Symphony No. 3, the “Tragic Symphony,” by James Barnes.

Both performances are free and open to the public and do not require tickets. For questions about the venue, contact Reynolds Performance Hall Box Office at (501) 450-3265 or visit uca.edu/Reynolds.
