Sue Schroeder–who has created more than 110 original dance works–and Christian Meyer–an award-winning composer, musician, fine art photographer, and filmmaker–will be the artists-in-residence at the University of Central Arkansas on March 21, March 27 and March 28.
Sue Schroeder’s work has been featured all around the world, from Germany to France, the Czech Republic to Mexico, and more. She has studied under Bill Evans, Anna Halprin, Hanya Holm, Oliver Kostock and John M. Wilson, and many other great dancers. Schroeder is recognized as a leading arts activist and mentor, and the founding artistic director of Core Dance, dually-based in Atlanta and Houston. Schroeder’s work also leads her to share what she knows about bodies in movement with isolated populations including those dealing with issues such as abuse, homelessness, language barriers and eating disorders.
Berlin-based composer Christian Meyer’s work and collaborations span from original scores for films and commercials to dance/theater performances and sound installations. Meyer also has visual creativity with photography with exhibits in Berlin. He has received awards from the Association of German Film Critics for his film music and from London’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
“Sue Schroeder has been able to visit UCA for an extended period of time on three previous occasions to work with the local artists on this once-in-a-lifetime dance/theater/film performance in honor of the April 8 total solar eclipse. The Community Foundation has also made it possible for Berlin-based composer and video artist Christian Meyer to attend this exciting residency,” said Gayle Seymour, associate dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
