Putting together a will or estate plan can often seem like a daunting prospect. In fact, some estimates show that more than 60% of Americans don’t currently have an up-to-date will.
The University of Central Arkansas’ Office of Legacy Planning is aiming to take some of the mystery out of estate planning with a free information session as part of its new Plan Now, Impact Forever seminar series.
UCA alumna Brooklyn Parker will present a free estate planning seminar in November.
The event will take place on Tuesday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Buffalo Alumni Hall on the UCA campus. Anyone interested in attending can register for the event online, though seating is limited. Refreshments will be provided.
“Having an estate plan in place is important for a variety of reasons but many people don’t know where to start,” said Greg Weber, assistant vice president of legacy planning at UCA. “Our hope is that this free session will help our alumni and friends better understand how easy it is to create an estate plan.”
The hour-long seminar will be presented by Conway-area attorney and UCA alumna Brooklyn Parker ’12. The session will cover the differences between wills and trusts as well as the common misconceptions of estate planning. There will also be time allotted for a Q&A session.
Parker is an attorney at the Jason Owens Law Firm who specializes in business and estate planning. A Conway native, Parker earned a bachelor’s degree in writing and linguistics from UCA in 2012 before graduating magna cum laude from UA Little Rock’s William H. Bowen School of Law with her Juris Doctor in 2016.
Locally, Parker is actively involved in the Conway community, serving on multiple nonprofit boards and holding membership in several social clubs. She enjoys spending time with her husband Zachary and their two daughters.
