The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Mobility Brass Quintet will perform a public concert Nov. 9 at the University of Central Arkansas in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Mobility Brass is made up of five brass musicians and one percussionist.

“The quintet will likely perform music that ranges from classical to pops and jazz, with a few patriotic songs included as well,” said Dr. Brent Shires, UCA associate professor of horn.

This performance will be the second event of the USAF Band of Mid-America Mobility Brass Quintet’s three-day residency at UCA.

On Nov. 8, the quintet will perform at UCA’s annual Veterans Day celebration, with the traditional mix of jubilant marches, the national anthem and The Armed Forces Salute.

The celebration is open to the public. Music will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the ceremony will begin at 1:40 p.m. on the McAlister Hall Lawn. If it rains, the event will be inside the McCastlain Hall Ballroom. Free food and exhibitors will be available before and after the celebration event.

“The Veteran’s Day event is a great opportunity for students to see the faculty and staff, as well as fellow students, honor all of our veterans on campus,” said Shires, who also serves as the music coordinator for UCA’s Veterans Day Committee.

On Nov. 12, the quintet will host a masterclass in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall beginning at 2 p.m., which will also be open to the public.

“This masterclass is designed to let everybody in on the quintet’s secrets of performance and is a wonderful opportunity to have students interacting with professional musicians,” said Shires.

“I would encourage people to come to any and all of the events; they may be very different, but they all provide a great way to show support to our veterans here on campus and off,” said Shires.
