UCA Theatre this week will open its main stage season with Moliere’s classic comedy, The Learned Ladies on Oct. 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bridges/Larson Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center.
Taking aim at the pretentiousness of pseudo-intellectuals, The Learned Ladies is set in the middle class household of Chrysale, which is besieged with a salon of women in love with learning. Spewing their half-baked knowledge for the purpose of social climbing, the women have been seduced by the flowery verses of a would-be poet as the household tumbles into chaos over who the daughters should marry. The production is under the direction of Dr. Kevin Browne, with set design by UCA Theatre major, Shannon Suit of Bonnerdale. Costume design is by Shauna Meador, assistant professor of Theatre, with lighting design by Theatre major, Louis Buehling of Little Rock. The cast includes Aaron Holt of Hot Springs, Andrew Bartholmey, Brady Ness, Jordy Neill, and Pammi Fabert, all of Conway, Cameron Backus of Little Rock, Christa Whitlow of Alma, Erica Summers of Cabot, Jackie Rivera of Jacksonville, Hunter Thompson of Heber Springs, Kyle Smiley of Rogers, Megumi Kabe of Japan, and Stefani Johnson of Benton.
On Oct. 23 and 29, a talk-back session with the cast and crew will be held immediately following the performance. Members of the audience will have the opportunity to discuss the play and ask questions of the cast, designers and back-stage crew. The talk-back session will take place in the theatre.
