FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UCA THEATRE TO HOST YOUTH THEATRE OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS MASK WORKSHOP

CONWAY—The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas (YTCA) will host a Character Mask workshop for young people ages 8-13 on Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a production at the University of Central Arkansas Black Box Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center.

Toads and Moles, Crows and Weasels, and Lions and Hyenas are just a few of the anthropomorphic characters the workshop will explore in YTCA’s Creative Mask workshop day.

“The mask is a powerful and ancient tool in storytelling, and a wonderful creative way into studying both serious and comedic characters,” said Ruthann Curry Browne, instructor of YTCA. “We’ll look at some famous plays that revolve around the journeys of our animal friends and build on our own interpretive masks for our characters. This is a great way to study the more imaginative characters from our dramatic literature canon.”

There will be a public performance at 1 p.m. for family and friends. Participants should register online at www.uca.edu/theatre/upcoming-workshops by Friday, Feb. 20. Cost is $60 for one child or $50 each for two or more children. Lunch is included in the fee.

The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas is an outreach program under University of Central Arkansas Theatre. More information about UCA’s Theatre Program is available online at www.uca.edu/theatre or by contacting Melissa Kordsmeier, UCA Theatre Business Manager at mkordsmeier@uca.edu or (501) 450-5092.
