The University of Central Arkansas Theatre program has announced its 2006-07 season. The season opens with Autobahn by Neil LaBute. This collection of brief vignettes takes place in the front seat of a car and is filled with edgy humor and witty dialogue. From a kidnapping to a makeout session to a mission involving the rescue of a Nintendo 64, Autobahn explores the confines of this truly American space. The play will be presented Sept. 5-9, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center and is part of UCA Theatre?s Second Season. Tickets are free to everyone, but must be reserved in advance. The play is suggested for mature audiences only.The critically acclaimed, award-winning Stop Kiss will be presented Oct. 26, 27, Nov. 1, 2, and 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Centre Stage of the Snow Fine Arts Center. Playwright Diana Son has written a funny, tender, yet tragic story of two women?s unexpected love for each other. The awkward friendship takes on an emotional spin, but then suddenly swerves in another direction as the play explores society?s views on intolerance and acceptance. Suggested for mature audiences only, tickets are $8 for the general public and free with a current UCA I.D.
UCA Theatre will host the Arkansas Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Nov 7-11, 2006 in the Reynolds Performance Hall. Eight to ten universities from around the state will present the very best in college theatre productions during the week. The Second Season continues with The Festival of One Act Plays Dec. 4, 5, and 6 at 7:30 p.m. on Centre Stage of the Snow Fine Arts Center. This popular series includes two to three different one act plays each evening, directed by the UCA Theatre Directing Class, and involving over 50 cast and crew. Admission is free to everyone. Tickets are not required and seats are not reserved. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. Play titles and subject matter will be available online beginning Nov. 15.
UCA Theatre?s own traveling troupe of players, The Cadron Company, will enchant and entertain audiences of all ages with its production of Blue Horses by Kathryn Schultz Miller. Performances will be held in the Reynolds Performance Hall on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Blue Horses is the delightful story of four young children, each with their own obstacles to overcome. When they ?wish upon a star? their imaginations allow them to become whatever they want and each soon realizes their differences are what make them special. Admission is free. Tickets are not required. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain.
Steve Martin?s classic comedy, Picasso at the Lapine Agile takes Centre Stage in the Snow Fine Arts Center Feb. 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Hilarity reigns in this intelligent comedy about a fictitious meeting between Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein in the legendary Paris bistro in 1904. Both on the verge of fame, they dream of the future, argue philosophy, and scour the bar for a date. Winner of the 1996 Outer Critics Circle Award, Martin spins a comedic tale of attraction and creativity where time and space become irrelevant. Tickets are $8 for the general public and free with a current UCA I.D. The play is suggested for mature audiences.
The season concludes with All My Sons by Arthur Miller on April 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Performance Hall. All My Sons examines the morality of a man who has misplaced his responsibility to the men who rely upon the integrity of his work. This Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright has written a moving, dramatic exploration of the illusions upon which the American dream is built and how true success is really measured. Tickets are $8.00 for the general public and free with a current UCA I.D.
