The event is organized by a student committee responsible for seeking out projects for volunteers to complete, recruiting volunteers and organizing the logistics of the day of service. The Big Event provides opportunities for UCA students, faculty, staff and alumni to serve local nonprofits as well as complete small projects submitted by their fellow Conway residents.

The Big Event, which began at Texas A&M University in 1982, has spread to colleges and universities throughout the nation. This event, which takes place each spring, is an opportunity for students to serve the community that supports the university year round. The event attracts several hundred volunteers every year, rain or shine, with roughly 778 volunteers participating in 2025.

Organizations and residents of Conway are invited to submit a request for volunteers by visiting uca.edu/bigevent. Volunteers are available for indoor and outdoor tasks, including minor landscaping, painting, cleaning and organizing, reading or participating in other interactive activities or completing other proposed projects. Community members are encouraged to contact UCA Student Life or The Big Event Committee with questions about what requests are allowed.

Most tools are provided, but needed materials must be supplied by the site. Job requests are open through Jan. 23. All are welcome to submit a request online at uca.edu/bigevent.
