The University of Central Arkansas Theta Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi earned a first-place and second-place award at the 2018 Southwest Regional Meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Feb. 24.
Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals with more than 300 chapters on college and university campuses. During the conference, students attended sessions on professional development, ethical behavior, leadership skills, service and professional networking.
Kylie Garrett of Heber Springs, Tianhui Wu of China and Alyman Ouattara of Côte d’Ivorie won first-place in the Branding category of Best Practices using their project, “Accounting: It’s in the Numbers.” The students competed against four other regional teams and will compete at the national meeting in Washington, D.C., in August.
Obed Onyemakonor of Nigeria and Nathan Scheuter of Conway won second place in the Launching Into the Next Century category of Best Practices using their project, “Stakeholders in the Know.” The students competed against five other regional teams.
Other UCA students attending the conference included Anne Attahi of Côte d’Ivorie, John Farmer of Texarkana, Jacob Harrington of Conway, Taylor Oberg of Bentonville, Anastasiya Klimiankova of Belarus and Zach Winston of Maumelle.
The UCA Department of Accounting in the College of Business received contributions from BKD LLP that allowed the students to travel to the conference. The UCA Student Government Association also covered a portion of the registration fees.
The Theta Lambda chapter is identified as a gold chapter by the Beta Alpha Psi for its commitment to professional and service hours.
