A University of Central Arkansas professor has been elected president of an international psychology organization.
Dr. Dong Xie, associate professor of psychology in UCA’s College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, has been elected president of the Association of Chinese Helping Professionals and Psychologists-International (ACHPPI). Xie will serve his term from 2020-22.
ACHPPI is an international professional organization that aims to promote and advance research, practice and education in psychology and related fields in China and other areas of the globe.
This summer, Xie presented several workshops and lectures in China on training professional Chinese counselors, including “Motivational Interviewing” at the Counseling Center at Suzhou University in Suzhou and “Development and Advancement of Counseling Profession in the United States” at China Women’s University in Beijing. He also presented a poster on challenges and strategies in training professional Chinese counselors at the American Psychological Association convention in San Francisco, California.
Xie earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Peking University in China and his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The Ohio State University.
