The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears knocked off Arkansas Tech on the road for the first time since 1995 on Tuesday night, winning 30-25, 20-30, 30-23 and 31-29.
UCA (8-9) opened the Gulf South Conference season at 1-0 and will host Henderson State at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Old Gym.
Senior Candice O?Neal led the Sugar Bears with 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .378. She also had a team-high five aces. Nicole Shoger and Pearline Gill added 14 kills each and Autumn Erickson chipped in 11 kills.
Sophomore setter Jordan Peterson had 50 assists and freshman Hilary Watts had 21 digs for UCA.
For ATU, Kelly Allums had 19 kills and Piper Young added 14.
