UCA JAZZ ENSEMBLES TO BE IN CONCERT APRIL 15

The University of Central Arkansas Jazz Ensembles will perform on Sunday, April 15, in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The concert, free and open to the public, is set for 7:30 p.m.

All three of the UCA Jazz Ensembles — Dixieland Band, Jazz II and Jazz I — will perform.

It will be the final UCA Jazz Ensembles concert for Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone and director of the UCA Dixieland Band, who is retiring in May after 32 years at the university.

The program for the Dixieland Band will include “Mandy Make Up Your Mind” by Clarence Williams; “Shout’em, Aunt Tillie” by Duke Ellington; “Dead Man Blues” by Jelly Roll Morton and “Dr. Jazz” by John (King) Oliver.

Jazz Ensemble II, directed by Larry Jones, will perform works for big band, including “Count Bubba’s Revenge” by Gordon Goodwin, “Miss Fine” by Oliver Nelson and “Katy-Do” by Benny Carter.

Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Dr. Gail Robertson, will perform “MacArthur Park” by Jimmy Webb, arranged by Adrian Drover and featuring Bryce Leonard on trumpet; “The Man I Love” by George Gershwin, arranged by Bill Holman and directed by Dr. Stephen James; “Another Life” by Pat Metheny, arranged by Bob Curnow and featuring Steve Cohen on flugelhorn and “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” by John DeBello, arranged by Gordon Goodwin.
