Rachel Schichtl, clinical instructor and director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Central Arkansas, has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Fellows are recognized for demonstrating the organization’s values of customer focus, integrity, innovation and social responsibility.
“I am excited and honored to have this recognition and am always happy to bring recognition to such an important profession,” Schichtl said.
Fellows are selected based on letters of recommendation and scoring a minimum amount of points through service, scholarship and leadership activities. Schichtl was selected in March.
Schichtl teaches nutrition and family and consumer sciences courses at UCA. She is also a doctoral candidate at Texas Tech University, and her dissertation examines empathy levels toward food insecurity in college students.
“I love the field of nutrition because it’s so broad and touches every individual,” Schichtl said. “My focus is community nutrition; however, there are specialties in clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, research, schools and so many more aspects. I love knowing that I am helping people.”
Schichtl earned both her bachelor’s and master’s at UCA and also received a dietetic internship from the university.
“I have been working here for almost six years and have experienced such support from my department all the way up through the university level,” she said. “I am pushed to gain professional development and to grow as a leader, teacher and researcher.”
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. It represents more than 100,000 practitioners and aims to advance the industry through education, research and advocacy.
