UCA HOSTS TRAINING SERIES FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS

The University of Central Arkansas Center for Community and Economic Development is partnering with the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) to provide a training series that will focus primarily on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) training and certification.

The first training will be held December 8 and 9 in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center on the UCA campus.

Amy Whitehead, director for the Center of Community and Economic Development, said, “This workshop is the perfect opportunity for our newly elected officials to learn community and economic development best practices as well as information on how to secure CDBG funds for their communities.”

The purpose of the training series is to educate local elected officials and other community leaders from across the state on the basics of community and economic development and CDBG funding. This training program is an outgrowth of the Technical Assistance for Mayors program offered by UCA last year.

Other training topics include community partnerships, disaster preparedness, crisis communication and business retention and expansion and innovative programs and projects around Arkansas.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will earn a CDBG Grantee Training Certificate from AEDC.

UCA will hold another session May 11-12, 2017 at Dawson Education Service Cooperative in Arkadelphia. The Community and Economic Development Training Series is a free training program and open to all communities and municipalities across the state.
