U.S. Representative French Hill invites the University of Central Arkansas community to join him for a screening of the documentary “Rosenwald: The Remarkable Story of a Jewish Partnership with African American Communities” on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the College of Business auditorium.
“Rosenwald” is the story of a Jewish-American businessman and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald (1862 – 1932), who used his talent for leadership to serve others. After teaming up with Richard Sears to build Sears, Roebuck and Co., Rosenwald established the Rosenwald Fund, which helped build schools for African-American children in the rural south.
Arkansas was one of only 15 states to receive support from the Rosenwald Fund and, in total, received $300,000, enabling the construction of 389 schools in 45 counties across the state. One of the 18 schools constructed using these funds is still standing in Bigelow and the local community is working to preserve and enhance this historic structure.
Light refreshments will be provided at the screening. For more information, please contact Chloe Maxwell at (501) 324-5941.
