CONWAY – The University of Central Arkansas hosted its ninth annual Information Technology (IT) Careers Camp from June 17 to June 20 on the campus.
Approximately 50 high school students from across the state were selected to attend the camp, after submitting applications. The camp is designed to increase student awareness of the many kinds of information technology (IT) careers available.
The UCA Department of Management Information Systems and Department of Computer Science partnered with Acxiom and Hewlett Packard (HP) to offer the camp at no charge to the students.
“This is one of the few camps anywhere that is totally free to campers thanks to our sponsors, Acxiom and HP,” said Summer Bartczak, associate professor of Management Information Systems and camp coordinator.
During the four-day camp, attendees make connections with professionals and professors in the field of IT as well as interact with other like-minded students. The camp offers variety of educational and hands-on programs such as web design, application design for iOS devices, wearables technology, 3-D printing and robotics. The activities gave students the chance to see the different applications of technology and the variety of IT jobs that exist.
“The kids get a lot of exposure to IT-related technologies, ideas and people in a short time,” said Bartczak. “It’s a very busy time, but it is an exciting time for everyone. Our goal is to see these students in IT jobs someday!”
