The University of Central Arkansas Foundation recently received a $5,000 grant from Bank of America. The money will be used to provide grants to UCA faculty for programs, research opportunities and other projects that support the mission of UCA and enhance student learning and community enrichment.Distribution of grant money occurs in the spring and fall semesters. The gift from Bank of America will be distributed during the spring grant cycle.
The UCA Foundation Grants committee meets twice per year to award money to various projects. During the fall grant cycle, over $20,000 for 10 different projects was awarded to faculty.
The following is a sample of the projects recently awarded this fall including:
?2005 Arkansas College Art History Symposium? Submitted by Dr. Gayle Seymour and Dr. Reinaldo Morales, Art ? This project seeks to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in a professional art history symposium as well as provide an opportunity for members of the Conway community to attend a public lecture by an international art history scholar.
?UCA Business Plan Competition? Submitted by Dr. Michael Rubach, Marketing and Management, and Dr. Michael Casey, Economics, Finance, Insurance and Risk Management ? This project seeks to establish the UCA Business Plan Competition and provide resources for students seeking entrepreneurial opportunities after graduation.
?A Community-Based Parent Training Program for Preventing and Managing Child Behavior Problems? Submitted by Dr. John J. Murphy, Psychology Counseling ? This project seeks to develop and implement a training program for parents of children ages 3 through 8 whereby UCA students will participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation for the training program.
The UCA Foundation, a private corporation founded in 1977, supports the mission of the university by providing educational opportunities to UCA students through scholarships, programs, faculty grants and enhanced services that would not otherwise be possible.
