UCA Downtown features Independent Living Services artists

The University of Central Arkansas Division of Outreach and Community Engagement in collaboration with the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences will host “Heroes,” an art exhibition featuring the works of artists with Independent Living Services, from Wednesday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Nov. 4.

The exhibition is on display at UCA Downtown, 1105 West Oak St., on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon-5 p.m. An opening reception will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The reception is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Patrons may purchase art at the reception.

Independent Living Services (ILS) is a local nonprofit organization that provides residential and day services to individuals with disabilities.

“As an artist and an art instructor, to see the clients express themselves in the purest way they know how is a true inspiration to me,” said Nick Palmer, art instructor at ILS and UCA alumnus.

The art exhibit will showcase paintings by 44 ILS artists who range in age and ability. The clients were asked to draw their heroes, hence the show’s name.
