The UCA Community School of Music will hold walk-in registration for the spring semester from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.-6p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 14 and 15 in the Snow Fine Arts Center, Room 203. Registration will continue Jan. 4-7.The spring semester for the Community School of Music begins Tuesday, Jan. 18 and for most classes will continue for 13 weeks through April 14.
The Community School provides adults and children in the central Arkansas area with an opportunity to pursue music study in a university setting. Private instruction is offered in piano, voice, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and all band and orchestral instruments.
Other classes available include the 8-week ?Kindermusik? Village? for newborns-18 months, 14 weeks of ?Our Time,? for 18 mo.-3 ?-year-olds and ?Imagine That? for 3 ? – 4-year-olds; Suzuki Piano for children 4 and up; Music Carousel for children in grades K-1; the Central Arkansas Children?s Choir for grades 3-12; and the Central Arkansas Home School Band for grades 4-12.
Free demonstration classes will be taught by Christine Franklin on Thursday at the Faulkner County Library. ?Our Time? for 1 ? – 3 ?-year-olds, will be presented from 11-11:30 a.m. and ?Imagine That? for 3 ? – 4-year-olds, will be presented 11:30 a.m.-Noon.

The award-winning Central Arkansas Children?s Choir will resume regular rehearsals on Monday, Jan. 10. The CACC, led by Judy Rogers and Sam Huskey, is open to students in grades 3-12. Two groups, Choristers, a training choir primarily for grades 3 and 4, and Concert Choir for grades 5-12, rehearse each Monday from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at UCA. A short audition is required for membership and can be arranged by contacting the Community School office.
The Concert Choir, which has performed over 30 times with the Arkansas Symphony, will sing next weekend in the ASO?s ?Yuletide Spectacular? at Robinson Auditorium. Tickets for the concert can be purchased by calling (501) 666-1761.
The Central Arkansas Home School Band program, directed by Jacki Carlo, will perform Monday at 7 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall. Home School band rehearsals and lessons will continue in January, beginning Jan. 19.
This program is designed to give students, who are currently home schooled, the opportunity to learn to play a band instrument and meet the challenges of performance and competition as part of an ensemble. Beginners participate in a rehearsal with other beginners and are given individual instruction in a small group setting of like instruments on a weekly basis. Classes for second, third and fourth year students are available.
Weekly rehearsals include instruction in theory, technique and performance. An audition is required to participate in the second year group and higher to insure each child is in the group best suited for them. Private instruction is available in addition to group rehearsals. The home school band program is set up on an annual basis from August-July, but students who already play an instrument my audition and start in January.
The faculty of the Community School consists primarily of UCA Department of Music faculty members and selected graduate and undergraduate students, but also includes adjunct instructors who are professional musicians. The Community School has an average enrollment of 400 students a semester, instructed by approximately 65 instructors.
