The University of Central Arkansas and the City of Conway will host the annual Veterans Day Celebration Nov. 11 at the football practice field next to Estes Stadium on the UCA campus.
A special ceremony honoring veterans will be held at 11 a.m. More than 100 balloons will be released in honor of each Arkansan killed in service since Sept. 11, 2001. Guest speakers for this year’s ceremony include representatives from the UCA faculty and student body who have served in the military.
Since 1996, the university has acknowledged the contributions of service men and women. Jeff Pitchford, vice president for University and Government Relations, said it is important to recognize veterans for their sacrifice.
“The UCA community and the Conway community have a lot of ties with veterans,” he said. “They make up our students, faculty, staff and citizens and it is an honor to work with them and be a part of a community with them. Our freedoms have not come cheap and we want them all to know how much we appreciate their sacrifices and service to our country.”
Food will be served following the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.
