UCA announces Schedler Honors Scholars for fall 2016

The University of Central Arkansas Norbert O. Schedler Honors College has selected 75 incoming first-year students as its newest class of Honors Scholars. The students were selected from a pool of over 375 qualified applicants, of which 136 were selected for intensive full-day interviews on the UCA campus.

Honors Scholars receive UCA’s most prestigious scholarship package, reside in a living-learning community in Jefferson W. Farris Honors Hall and participate in a unique interdisciplinary curriculum with ample opportunities for service learning, project-based education, collaborative work, undergraduate research and travel or internship support.

The class of 2016 includes:

  • 13 valedictorians and salutatorians
  • 32 students with an ACT test score of 30 or higher (that set of scores includes the top 3% of test scores in the country)

In addition, the records of the entire class include:

  • An average high school cumulative GPA of 4.212
  • An average ACT test score of 29.5

The class of 2016 includes five students from out-of-state including Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Honors students may choose any major they wish from the large variety of possibilities at UCA.

“Evidence suggests that the admissions process that selected these students is among the most rigorous in the national Honors community,” commented Richard Scott, dean of the Schedler Honors College.  “Those who achieved admission into the UCA Honors College should be extremely proud of their accomplishment.”
