The University of Central Arkansas will hold its annual Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, with an information fair at 11:30 a.m. and formal ceremony at 1:40 p.m.
The theme of this year’s event is “Legacy” and will commemorate the service of veterans from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and feature notable speakers, free food, live music and a veterans information fair.
The information fair will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on McAllister Lawn. Visit https://uca.edu/veteransday/ and fill out the information fair exhibitor form to become an exhibitor at the information fair.
The information fair showcases local businesses and organizations that provide support and opportunities for veterans. More than three dozen exhibitors focused on veterans are slated to be at this year’s event.
A vendor of note is the Little Rock Mobile Vet Center, a super-sized 38-foot mobile support center that connects veterans and their families to resources and support systems.
The ceremony will start at 1:40 p.m. in McCastlain Hall. UCA Choirs will provide music for this ceremony.
Maj. Gen. Jonathan M. Stubbs will deliver the keynote address for the ceremony. Stubbs has served the Arkansas National Guard for 27 years and has acted in every leadership role within the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. From 1997 to 2021, he served as Active-Guard reserve. His prolific decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Valorous Unit Award, Legion of Merit 3rd award, Bronze Star 2nd award and many others.
The ceremony also includes the presentation of the Tidwell Veterans Scholarship and the UCA Veterans Day Scholarship. Both scholarships will be awarded to full-time UCA students who are veterans or current service members.
