Sigma Nu Fraternity recently announced that University of Central Arkansas alumnus Ricardo G. Guevara received Sigma Nu Fraternity’s Alpha Alumni Chapter Affiliate Award for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Each academic year, up to ten outstanding seniors are selected to be honored with the Alpha Alumni Chapter Affiliate Award. Begun in 1962, the Alpha Affiliate Award has a proud history and is one of the highest honors the fraternity can bestow upon a member.

Guevara graduated from the UCA with a 3.38 GPA majoring in health services administration. He served the Lambda Phi chapter at UCA as commander (president) and social chairman.

The major emphasis in the selection of Alpha Alumni Chapter Affiliate Award recipients is evidence of the member living an honorable life by upholding the ideals of Sigma Nu and influencing others to do the same. Additional evaluation is based on the applicant’s academic excellence, extracurricular record, and demonstrated leadership for the fraternity, school, state and nation.

Within his campus community, he served as president of the Latino Student Association, mentor for the Minority Leadership Program, and senior class representative for the Student Government Association. Guevara was recognized by the UCA community as Registered Student Organization President of the Year in 2022, Outstanding Greek in 2022, Greek Man of the Year in 2023, and with a Bear CLAWS Award in 2023.

In nominating him for the award, Maria Negrete Padron, assistant director in the UCA Division of Student Affairs, said, “Ricardo is dedicated and devoted to all that he does. He is a mature, warmhearted individual who leads by example while upholding his personal values.”

The fraternity salutes Guevara and the nine other recipients of this distinguished award as exceptional members of Sigma Nu Fraternity whose service and leadership exemplify the Fraternity’s mission to develop ethical leaders. Sigma Nu wishes Guevara success in his future endeavors and hopes that he will continue to proudly represent the Fraternity’s mission, values, and principles through his honorable conduct.

Headquartered in Lexington, Virginia, Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.
