Grammy Award-winning Texas band Brave Combo opens the third annual Toad Suck Jazz Daze at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 at Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus.
On Friday, April 23, noted trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and film scorer Terence Blanchard and his septet play a concert from his latest Blue Note Records release BOUNCE. Three UCA Jazz Ensembles will play a free concert on Saturday, April 24, to close the three-day festival. Larry Jones and Dr. Jackie Lamar conduct the UCA Jazz Ensembles. Jones produces Toad Suck Jazz Daze.
Blanchard, who has composed and performed the scores for over 30 films, including many Spike Lee films, will conduct a Film Scoring Workshop on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Snow Fine Arts Center Room 107 and an Instrumental Master Class on Friday, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall. Both workshops are free and open to the general public.
The Terence Blanchard concert and residency is supported by the Heartland Arts Fund, a program of Mid-America Arts Alliance funded by the National Endowment for the Arts with additional contributions from the Arkansas Arts Council, and foundations, corporations, and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Tickets to the Brave Combo concert on Thursday are $5. UCA students may receive one free ticket. Tickets to the Terence Blanchard concert on Friday are $20 for the general public; $17 for senior citizens (60+) and UCA Alumni Association members; $15 for UCA faculty, staff, UCA retirees, and College Square residents; and $10 for non-UCA students. UCA student can receive one free ticket, with a second ticket available for $5, with I.D.
