The University of Central Arkansas Public Appearances presents An Evening with Suzy Boggus on Sunday, April 13, at 7 p.m. at The Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
From Grammy Award-winning performances to platinum-selling records, Bogguss has entertained audiences for four decades, earning her stripes as a singer-songwriter and producer. She’s a living legend of country music, having earned eight Top 10 hits throughout the 1990s before exploring new influences — including jazz, western swing, and the Bakersfield sound — during the 21st century.
Most importantly, she’s maintained strong relationships with her friends and fans, from the soup nights she regularly hosts at her Tennessee home — evenings that feature not only food but also jam sessions between dinner guests to her weekly livestream, “Wine Down Wednesday.” Launched in 2020, those live streams strengthened Boggus’s bond with her audience during the Covid era, giving her the inspiration and confidence to create her newest album, Prayin’ For Sunshine, which is the first album ever written by Boggus all on her own.
During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Boggus sold four million records with radio hits like “Outbound Plane”, “Someday Soon”, “Letting Go”, “Drive South”, and “Hey Cinderella”.
She made a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins, an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel, and her original music album in 2007 landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion, in the Grammy she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project from 2011, American Folk Songbook.
In addition to her Grammy and several Grammy nominations, Bogguss won Top New Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music in 1989, Country Music Association Award for New Artist of the Year in 1992 and the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association.
