Dr. Steven Runge, College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics, and student Cody Cook received a $2,650 grant for a study titled, ?The Acidification Induced Exocytic Response in MCF-7 Cells and Correlating Apoptosis.?The funding agency is the Scholars Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF).
According to the authors, ?Our laboratory will use the grant to the best of our ability to uncover new information that will further advance the field of science, particularly the etiology of cancer.?
Preliminary results may be presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in April.
Striving for departmental honors in biology, Cody Cook will present the experimental findings to the UCA biology department this spring.
Runge said, ?Programs like SURF enable the university and its students to show the rest of the state, the nation, and with science, the world, that we are not only committed to the search for knowledge, but capable to accept such a task. The opportunities that this grant will stimulate will give students yet another reason to sing praises to the Conway community, and ultimately the state, that their university is a healthy, fruitful institution.?
