Jon-Stephen Stansel, digital and social media specialist at the University of Central Arkansas, was recently featured in a Currents magazine article on social media crisis communication in higher education.
Currents is the magazine of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a global nonprofit association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.
The article highlights Stansel’s experience as a social media manager in higher education from his first day on the job at Texas State University when a truck backfiring was mistaken for gunfire to more recently managing UCA’s COVID-19 social media communications. The article also includes some of Stansel’s thoughts on best practices for social media crisis communications for universities.
Stansel has presented at several conferences and webinars such as HighEdWeb, CASE Social Media Conference and Hootsuite on the topic of social media crisis communications and other topics related to social media in higher education. Stansel also co-hosts the “Thought Feeder Podcast,” a weekly podcast offering insights on digital marketing in higher education.
The article is free to all CASE members and can be found here.
