The UCA Staff Senate has planned a tailgate for the final home football game on Saturday in an effort to bring more staff together and to support the UCA community.
Senator Bobby Tucker proposed the tailgate idea to the senate at its meeting last Wednesday. “I feel like we don’t do enough to get the staff together,” he said. “I would like to see the staff senate host a tailgate party next weekend.”
Tucker secured outside donations for almost everything needed to put on a tailgate. Food is being provided courtesy of Hog Pen BBQ; Pepsi is providing beverages; and Sherwin Williams is providing supplies. Tucker asked the senate to provide $150 to purchase items that had not been donated.
The senate approved the motion to host a tailgate and to provide $150 to support the venture. The tailgate will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. It is free and open to the public. Kickoff for the game between UCA and West Alabama is at 3 p.m. at Estes Stadium.
The staff senate is also helping to ensure that all members of the UCA community have a happy Thanksgiving Day by collecting food and monetary donations to purchase food that will be provided UCA families in need.
Twenty turkeys already have been donated. UCA employees can help by donating non-perishable items such as canned pie filling, canned vegetables and cornbread and cake mixes. Donations are also being accepted for the purchase of perishable items that will be bought to complete the meal such as: Onion, celery, milk, butter, potatoes, eggs, etc.
Donations of non-perishable items may be left in the drop-off boxes in Main Hall Room 104 and in the Student Center. Individuals may also call 852-5120 to have donations picked up. The deadline for donations is Monday, Nov. 24.
Members of the UCA community may also nominate colleagues via a nomination form that was sent through campus mail earlier this week. Additional forms can be found in the Student Center and in Main Hall Room 104. Nomination forms should be sent to: Thanksgiving Dinners, Main Hall Room 104. The names of those who are nominated will be kept confidential.
The staff senate will be selling UCA staff shirts in November. T-shirts, polo shirts, mock-turtle neck shirts and button down shirts will be on display and sold in the Student Center. A date has not yet been set for shirt sales.
Staff Senate President Julia Robison encouraged the UCA community to attend a brief ceremony in honor of Veteran’s Day at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, in front of Main Hall.
Tickets will soon be on sale for the annual Holiday Feast. The senate approved a motion to subsidize $1.50 of each staff member’s ticket, so tickets are $5 for staff and $6.50 for faculty. Tickets will be sold in the Physical Plant, the Library Circulation Desk and in Irby Hall Room 120.
