Teachers of Tomorrow, in collaboration with the College of Education, will host the fourth annual Spark Interest in Teaching Conference on Thursday, Nov. 11, at Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center.
This year more than 400 high school participants from across the state, along with public school personnel and UCA faulty and administration, will be in attendance.
Welcome addresses will be delivered by President Lu Hardin, Interim College of Education Dean David Skotko, and Dr. Lloyd Sain of the Little Rock School District, at Reynolds Performance Hall.
Teachers of Tomorrow is a pre-professional teaching organization that originated with Little Rock, Pulaski County Special School District, and North Little Rock. The partnership has extended to include UCA, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Henderson State University, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The goal of the organization has been to create, encourage and support clubs that recruit annually outstanding minority students who are motivated toward preparation for a career in teaching. Over 1,000 students have registered in clubs this fall.
This year’s conference special guest speaker is Cary Trivanovich. He is noted for his cutting-edge performance mixing humor with hilarious pantomimes.
Trivanovich lives in California and has traveled extensively performing at over 2,500 schools, colleges, theaters, and conferences throughout North America as well as on cruise ship headline performances around the world. His hilarious and moving pantomimes will be mixed with a profound message for this year’s participants. He will perform at 12:40 p.m. at Reynolds Performance Hall. UCA students are cordially invited to attend his performance.
