On Thursday, University of Central Arkansas President Lu Hardin accepted on behalf of the UCA Foundation a private matching gift of $5,200 from the SBC (formerly Southwestern Bell) Foundation.
The gift matched two private donations given earlier in the year by G.A. Davidson of Plano, Texas, and Joseph Waggoner of Hot Springs, both UCA alumni and retired SBC employees. The $5,000 matched gift will be designated to the G.A. and Jean Davidson Fund within the UCA Foundation, while the other $200 matches a gift Waggoner made to the UCA Foundation?s Margin of Excellence Fund. Upon accepting the gift, Hardin said, ?We appreciate SBC?s commitment to matching the private gifts that its employees and retired employees make to charitable organizations, and we are proud of the partnership that has developed between UCA and SBC.?
To date, the SBC Foundation and SBC Arkansas have given over half a million in private gifts to the university and its foundation.
More than 7,500 companies across the U.S. offer matching gift programs to their employees, and some offer the option to their retirees. These companies? donations double, and in some cases triple, the amount of an individual?s private gift to non-profit, charitable organizations.
