CONWAY—Barbara G. Williams, department chairperson of the University of Central Arkansas Department of Nursing will receive the 2014 Arkansas Hospital Association (AHA) Chairman’s Award during the AHA’s annual Awards Dinner on October 9 at the Little Rock Marriott.
“I am honored by this award. Hospitals are vital for the health and economic vitality of our communities. Being able to serve on the Arkansas Hospital Association’s board with hospital leaders and the AHA staff as they address the health needs of our citizens has been a privilege, and for me, an educator, seeing healthcare from this view, has been a learning experience,” said Dr. Williams.
She will complete both her term as president of the Arkansas Association of Hospital Trustees (AAHT) and as trustee delegate to the AHA board in October. During her two-year tenure, Dr. Williams has been a mentor for hospital trustees in the state and has represented trustees both in Arkansas and nationally at regional policy board meetings of the American Hospital Association in discussions about important healthcare issues and the value of governance education.
Dr. Williams is a member of Conway Regional Health System’s Board of Trustees. As AAHT chairman, she was instrumental in helping design and administer a 2014 survey aimed both at trustees and at CEOs to determine exactly what trustees expected and needed from the AHA and AAHT. The survey results will play a large role in how the organization advocates for and educates hospital trustees in coming years.
