On Monday of this week, UCA President Allen Meadors spoke to nearly 1,000 UCA freshman at the opening convocation session for freshman students at the Reynolds Performance Hall. President Meadors told the freshmen that while they didn’t have a choice to go to school before, they now have that choice. “You have made the choice to go to college and attend UCA. You now have a burden to be a role model to the folks back home.”President Meadors continued to stress to the students that they have the ability to succeed but that it is in their hands to do it. “This is the time to develop your mind and become the person you should be.” He later offered tips on success, such as class attendance, getting the proper amount of sleep, getting to know the faculty, campus involvement and using UCA’s academic resources for assistance.
UCA Provost Dr. Lance Grahn welcomed students and explained to the freshman students as to why the faculty members were dressed in thier academic regalia. “This is to show you what graduation will look like for you in four years and to encourage you to be a part of that in the future.”
UCA Student Government President Cody Wilson pointed out to students that they “would be radically changed in just a few months and will have different tastes and different views on life because this is the magical time of your life”. UCA Association of Future Alumni President Molly Philhours pointed out that all freshman students are now associated with UCA for life and welcomed them into the UCA family.
Orientation for new students will continue the week of August 17th through August 21st, with classes starting on Thursday, August 20th.
