Dr. William H. Friedman, Department of Management Information Systems, presented a paper on Aug. 5, in the Philosophical Foundations track at the Americas Conference on Information Systems in Tampa, Fla. The paper, titled, ?A Philosophical Analysis of Intellectual Property Rights As They Pertain To Software,? explores the concepts of property rights in general, intellectual property in particular and includes a critique of the ideas behind the open source software movement. The paper appears in the conference proceedings and on Friedman?s Web site.
Dr. Chenyi Hu, Computer Science Department, presented a research paper “A Parallel Algorithm for Reliable Nonlinear Optimization with Interval Arithmetic” at the 16th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing Systems, Aug. 13, in Reno, Nev. The article is published in the conference proceedings on pages 151-156.
