The following faculty have reported presentations, publications, awards and honors: Dr. Letha J. Mosley, Department of Occupational Therapy, presented a workshop at the Adult Higher Education Alliance’s 26th Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas on October 12, 2006. Dr. Mosley’s topic was “Floating Betwixt and Between: How Intersections of Race and Gender Influence Adult Educators? Negotiation Strategies”. This presentation included information about how educators in higher education develop cultural competency programs and programs that address racial and ethnic disparities in health care. The primary focus was on the methods educators used to negotiate their organizational culture to plan, implement, and sustain relevant programs. In addition, data on differences in negotiation strategies used by educators of different ethnicities and genders were presented.
Mosley also was invited as a panelist to speak at the University of Georgia Graduate School’s Future Leaders Program. The program took place on October 25-27, 2006 at Amicalola Falls, a resort in the mountains of Northeast Georgia. She spoke to an enthusiastic group of graduate students in the last stages of their program of study about transitioning from graduate school into academia, mentoring, leadership, and establishing a research agenda. She concluded by encouraging participants to consider working at an institution such as the University of Central Arkansas.
Joe Howard, Department of Political Science , had the article “Hispanic College Attendance and the State of Texas GEAR UP Program” published in the Review of Policy Research Volume 23 Issue 5 in September 2006. The article was co-authored with Gregory Weiher, Christina Hughes and Noah Kaplan all of the University of Houston.
Philip Frana, Honors College, presented the paper “Nudging History Online: From the Mechanics of Immersion to the World of Warcraft” at the annual meeting of the Society for the History of Technology in Las Vegas, NV, on Oct. 15.
