Dr. Linda Griffith, director for the Arkansas Center for Mathematics and Science Education, and Drs. Jean McGehee and Carolyn Pinchback, Department of Mathematics, organized the 32nd Conference for the Research Council on Mathematics Learning (RCML) held Feb. 24-26 at the Wyndham Hotel in North Little Rock.
They also presented their research. Griffith and McGehee presented ?The Coaching/Mentoring Relationship: What Does Each Partner Gain??
Pinchback and Dr. Carolyn Williams, College of Education, presented, ?Using Information Technology to Enhance Teacher Quality and Improve Student Achievement in Mathematics.?
Dr. David Peterson, Department of Mathematics, gave the Wilson Lecture. He spoke on connecting mathematics with music and dance. His wife, Donna Peterson, Department of Philosophy and Religion, also participated in the presentation.
As one of the keynote speakers, Jaynette Huff presented ?Mix It Up-Arkansas, Mathematics, and Quilts.? Dr. Larry Huff, Department of Mathematics, assisted his wife in the presentation.
Dr. Donna Foss, Program Coordinator for Mathematics and Science Education, co- lead “Beginning Research” in one of the sessions for Birds of a Feather and presented ?Conflicts of Mathematics and Mathematics Teaching and Learning: Contrasts and Conflicts.?
Griffith, McGehee and Pinchback received plaques for their work in hosting this conference. In addition, Pinchback received a Certificate of Appreciation for her work as a member of the Conference Committee, 2002-2005.
Recently, the three received a letter pertaining to the success of the conference. According to Dr. Alan Zollman, Chair of Teacher Education in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Northern Illinois University and past Vice President of Publication, ?It was the best RCML Conference to date, in my opinion.?
