UCA graduate Barbara Seedha and Dr. Joseph Horton, College of Business Administration, presented a paper at the meeting of the American Society for Competitiveness, Oct. 14-16 in Washington, D.C.
The paper is based on Seedha’s Honors College thesis, which Horton supervised. U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao congratulated Seedha on having her undergraduate work presented at a major academic conference. Secretary Chao was the Keynote Speaker for the Conference.
Dr. Reinaldo (Dito) Morales, Department of Art, attended the 50th Midwest Archaeological Conference and the 61st Southeastern Archaeological Conference, which jointly convened in St. Louis, Oct. 20-23.
Morales presented a paper titled “Seeing ‘Things?? in a conference session sponsored by the Eastern States Rock Art Research Association. The paper addressed the interpretation of prehistoric paintings and engravings on rock (rock art) from North America and Brazil. Researchers were cautioned to avoid ambitious interpretations of prehistoric images, stressing the sophisticated nature of Native American rock art. Much of this imagery involves complex combinations of naturalistic and abstract motifs that can be impossible to “read” without understanding indigenous graphic systems.
Dr. Philip L. Frana, Honors College, was invited to give the lecture ?In Union There is Strength: Rural Health Nursing in the Great Depression? at the Oct. 23 meeting of the Newberry Seminar in Rural History. The Newberry Seminar series is co-sponsored by the Newberry Library and the University of Chicago.
