Presentations and Publications 12/2

The following presentations, publications and accomplishments were submitted by UCA faculty and staff: Dr. Christy Standerfer, Department of Writing and Speech, presented ?The Rhetorical Implications of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Center? on Nov. 19 at the 91st Annual Meeting of the National Communication Association in Boston.

Dr. Nelle Bedner, Department of Writing and Speech, presented ?An Asymptomatic Listening Exercise for the Interpersonal Communication Classroom? on Nov. 18 at the 91st Annual Meeting of the National Communication Association in Boston. The paper was recognized as a ?Top 3 Paper? in the Great Ideas for Teaching Speech division. Bedner also presented, ?To Tech or Not to Tech? A Comparison of Two Communication Research Classrooms,? at the same conference.

Dr. Garry Craig Powell, Department of Writing and Speech, announced that a short film he wrote titled ?Lazarus of Little Rock? will premiere at Market Street Cinema in Little Rock at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The film was directed by Dave Calhoun.

Dr. Stephanie Vanderslice, Departmetn of Writing and Speech, recently authored with Graeme Harper, University of Portsmouth-UK, the afterword to the new book, ?Power and Identity in the Creative Writing Classroom: The Authority Project,? edited by Anna Leahy and published by Multilingual Matters Press. She has also published with Dr. Kelly Ritter, Southern Connecticut State University, “Teaching Lore: Creative Writers in the Academy,” in the December issue of Profession, a journal of opinion about and for the modern language profession and published by the International Modern Language Association.

Roy Kitchen, Department of Marketing and Management, recently published a book titled “Phobia: The Five Keys to Overcoming Your Fear of Public Speaking.” Combining more than 15 years of public speaking and teaching experience, Kitchen uses anecdotes, quotations and real life events to illustrate how using the keys he developed can lead to greater self-confidence, courage and poise. The book was published by Authorhouse.
