Presentations and Publications 11/11

The following presentations, publications and accomplishments were submitted by UCA faculty and staff: Dr. Jim Guinee, Department of Psychology and Counseling, presented “The Dark Side of Religion: A Case Study” and “When college counselors teach classes” on Oct. 20 at the annual conference for the Southeastern College Counseling Center Personnel in Hot Springs.

Dr. Roy Whitehead, Department of Accounting, spoke on Nov. 3 in Little Rock at a luncheon meeting of the Arkansas Policy Foundation on eminent domain and the taking of private property for economic development.

Dr. Brooks Green, Department of Geography, organized a two-hour session on Nov. 4 in Little Rock at the Arkansas Conference on Teaching. The session enabled 9, K-12 teachers and one university student to present information about their month-long experience in the Russian Far East.

Lisa Mongno, Department of Writing Speech, gave a poetry reading and talk at Georgia Perimeter College on Nov. 2.

Drs. Myles Quiben and Reta Zabel, Department of Physical Therapy, along with Eric Uytingco, PT, GCS, from St. Vincent?s Hospital, presented on Oct. 12 at the 25th Arkansas Annual Aging Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The three board certified clinical geriatric specialists presented ?Modified Relaxation: Tapping into Capacities for Fitness and Relaxation,? which encouraged physical activity, postural and relaxation techniques for better health and fitness.

Dr. Myles Quiben, Department of Physical Therapy, was awarded board certification as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapists in a ceremony held at the 2005 Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association. Quiben is one of seven geriatric specialists in Arkansas.

Quiben also presented a poster titled ?Multifactorial Analysis of Stroke Rehabiliation Outcomes: A Retrograde Study? at the 2005 Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association in Louisiana. It was a collaborative project between faculty at the Department of Physical Therapy (with Dr. Hao Liu) and the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, ZhongShan Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China (Chen & Zeblin), supported by the China Medical Board Rehabilitation Medicine Grant No. 98-676. The poster was chosen to be part of the poster tour at the conference.
