PINNACLE BRASS TO PRESENT CONCERT FROM CHINA TOUR

CONWAY —Pinnacle Brass, the University of Central Arkansas’s resident faculty quintet, will perform music from its recent tour of China in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall on campus.
The quintet will be in concert at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The event is free and open to the public.
The group, made up of UCA brass faculty Larry Jones (trumpet), Brent Shires (horn), Justin Cook (trombone) and Christian Carichner (tuba), as well as trumpet student Eric Liu, spent two weeks in December touring the People’s Republic of China, presenting concerts and teaching college students. Pinnacle Brass continued the tour in January at the Faulkner County Library and will visit Arkansas schools throughout the spring.
“We really enjoyed getting to visit students and professionals around eastern China,” said Brent Shires, assistant professor of horn. ” We not only gave many different concerts, but we also taught classes and lessons and gave a panel discussion. We also visited the historic city of Suzhou, and some of us had additional experiences, such as my trip to a horn factory in Tianjin and Christian’s work with a Japanese band before arriving in China.”
The program will include Bai Lin’s “Introduction;” Aaron Copland’s “Grover’s Corners” from the film score to Our Town; Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea;” Samuel Ward’s “America the Beautiful;” Jiang Jun Fu’s “Silvery Moonlit Night”; and Duke Ellington’s “Do Nothin’ till You Hear from Me.” Music will be interspersed with comments and narrative as well as images from the tour.
Pinnacle Brass, founded in 2001, has appeared throughout Arkansas performing concerts and presenting music clinics at schools. The group also does performances and ceremonies for UCA.
