The Conway Athletic Awards Commission has awarded former UCA football All-American Monte Coleman the 2007 Elijah Pitts Award for career achievement. Coleman starred for the Bears from 1975 to 1978. In 1979, he became the first UCA player drafted by the NFL. He played linebacker for the Washington Redskins, winning three Super Bowl titles during his 16 seasons. Rahul Mehta of UCA's Physics and Astronomy department received a $20,000 grant from the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium for a study involving the spectroscopic and morphometric analysis of bones under simulated microgravity using a hindlimb suspended animal model.
