LITTLE ROCK — The Marcus Roberts Trio will perform at South on Main in Little Rock at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, and will be a guest artist-in-residence at the University of Central Arkansas on Monday, Nov. 11.

According to www.southonmain.com, the trio will release Together Again, a duo record with Wynton Marsalis.

Saturday’s event is sponsored by the University of Central Arkansas College of Fine Arts and Communication (CFAC) and Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, in partnership with the Oxford American, Piano Kraft and Rosen Music Company.

“This event is the first of what I hope will be many artistic collaborations among UCA, CFAC and its fine arts programs and endeavors, the Oxford American and South on Main,” said Terry Wright, interim dean of UCA’s College of Fine Arts and Communication. “Future joint projects could include shared residencies, theatrical productions (including Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre), literary readings, musical performances, film showings and art exhibitions.

Roberts’ style consists of modern jazz with the piano heavily incorporated. For his UCA residency, he will hold a master class with jazz students in the Department of Music.

According to the website, Roberts, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., began teaching himself to play piano after losing his vision at 5. He studied at Florida State and, at 21, began touring with Marsalis. Roberts’ composition and recorded work ranges from solo and small ensemble pieces to symphonic arrangements. His 1996 recording, Portraits in Blue, was nominated for a Grammy.

Roberts currently serves as an assistant professor at Florida State.

South on Main is located at 1304 South Main St.

Tickets for the Roberts performance are $51.75 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit southonmain.com or call 501-244-9660.
