Legally Blonde To Continue Broadway Series

The Broadway sensation Legally Blonde the Musical will conclude the University of Central Arkansas’s Broadway Series at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.

The show, based on the hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon, revolves around Elle Woods, a bubbly sorority girl who refuses to let her blonde hair stereotype get her down. When her boyfriend breaks up with her for someone more “serious,” Elle is determined to show him who is boss. She drops her shopping bags and hits the books to set her sights on getting into Harvard Law School.

Along with learning about law, she learns more about herself than she could’ve ever imagined. She finds that staying true to herself no matter the circumstances was what she needed to do all along.

“It’s an ideal show, just lots of fun,” Director of Public Appearances Jerry Biebesheimer said.

During its first year on Broadway in 2007, the show received seven Tony Award nominations, along with 10 Drama Desk Award nominations and an Outer Critics Circle Award. The musical also ranked in the top 10 for the most requested Ticketmaster “Arts & Theatre Events” for 2007.

The touring production has won “Best New Touring Musical,” “Best Design of a Touring Production” and “Best Choreography of a Touring Production.”

“At that time in the semester, almost the end, I think students and faculty need something exciting and up-tempo to go see,” Biebesheimer said.

Time Magazine has said “It’s an Elle of a show” and the New York Times wrote, “It’s a nonstop sugar rush of a show.”
