KOLANIAN/HAMMETT CLASSICAL GUITAR DUO TO PERFORM

The University of Central Arkansas Department of Music will host a concert by the Kolanian/Hammett Classical Guitar Duo on Monday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall. The duo will perform selections by Enrique Granados, Manuel De Falla, Astor Piazzola, Vojislav Ivanovic and more. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The duo will also give a classical guitar masterclass featuring UCA guitar students from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Feb. 20 at UCA Downtown, 1105 Oak Street.

About the Artists:

Iakovos Kolanian studied at the National Conservatory of Athens with Evangelos Assimakopoulos and Lisa Zoe and graduated in 1985 with the top award and a special honor of exceptional performance. Throughout the years he has toured Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America, where he has presented to audiences a large part of the classical guitar repertoire.

Larry Hammett is currently the coordinator of guitar studies at the University of Oklahoma. He is a recognized expert in both classical and jazz guitar. He has been performing professionally since the age of 16. His teaching career began in 1982, when he became one of three selected students to teach guitar at Montana State University while studying with Christopher Parkening. He joined the University of Oklahoma faculty in 1991 and currently directs one of the most successful guitar programs in the country. Hammett has performed in France, Mexico, Argentina, Greece, Spain, Serbia and throughout the United States.

The UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication includes the Departments of Art, Music, and Film, Theatre and Creative Writing as well as the School of Communication.
