CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Jazz Ensembles will be in concert Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The concert, free and open to the public, will begin at 3 p.m.

Three student bands — The Dixieland Band, Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Ensemble II — will perform.

“The groups will be playing jazz from its beginning styles of Dixieland Jazz, through the Swing Era, Bebop, and more contemporary styles of jazz,” said Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone and director of The Dixieland Band.

The Dixieland Band will play the music of Bob Crosby and will perform West End Blues by King Oliver and Big Noise from Winnetka by Crosby.

Jazz Ensemble II will play some funk style music from the Hangin with My Peeps chart, including Switch In Time by Sammy Nestico and Walk Don’t Run by Quincy Jones.

The concert will conclude with a performance by Jazz Ensembles I of The Chicken by Alfred Ellis, Moon Over Cuba by Duke Ellington, Corner Pocket by Count Basie and Opus in Chartreuse from the Stan Kenton Library.

“Our audiences usually consist of a mixture of UCA students, parents, and interested people from the community who like to listen to jazz,” Lamar said.
