CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas will feature its final jazz concert of the fall semester on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The performance, free and open to the public, will feature all three UCA Jazz Ensembles — Jazz Ensemble I and II and the UCA Dixieland Band in a feature performance.

Dr. Jackie Lamar directs the UCA Dixieland Band. Dr. Gail Robertson directs Jazz Ensemble II. Larry Jones directs Jazz Ensemble I.

The UCA Dixieland Band will perform Dead Man Blues” by Jelly Roll Morton, “Henry’s Made A Lady Out of Lizzie” by Walter O’Keefe, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” by Jimmy McHugh and “Sugar” by Maceo Pinkard.

“The UCA Dixieland Band will focus on music from 1927-1928,” said Lamar, professor of saxophone. “This style places more emphasis on individual improvisation rather than collective or group improvisation. The reason for our focus is that we will be performing for the Model ‘A’ Car Clubs of America Convention in December.”

The program for Jazz Ensemble II includes “That Old Black Magic,” “Girl Talk” (featuring Sarah Zimmerman, alto saxophone), “Cute” (featuring Derek Weiand, drum set), “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” (featuring Stephen Cohen, flugel horn), “Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In,” “Blues Around the House” (featuring the whole band), and “How High The Moon”.

Jazz Ensemble I’s performance will includeDiminuendo and Crescendo in Blue” by Duke Ellington, “The Joy of Cooking” by Sammy Nestico, “Basie’s Buddy B” by John LaBarbera and “Count Bubba’s Revenge” by Gordon Goodwin.
