CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Department of Music will host a concert on Sunday, April 17, featuring the students of Jazz I, Jazz II and the UCA Dixieland Band.
The 7:30 p.m. concert in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall is free and open to the public.
The UCA Dixieland Band, directed by Professor of Saxophone Dr. Jackie Lamar, will perform “Doctor Jazz” by Joe “King” Oliver; “Sister Kate” by Clarence Williams and Armand Piron; a transcription of Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five recording of “Hotter Than That”; and “Back Home in Indiana” by Ballard MacDonald and James F. Hanley.
Featured will be Danyelle Wells, Jeremy Landry and Jake Bass on vocals, Kaitlynn Ledet on trumpet and Jake Gatlin on clarinet.
Jazz Ensemble II, directed by Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium Dr. Gail Robertson, will perform “Billy May for President” by Sammy Nestico; “Bone Busters” (featuring the trombone section: Joseph Berry, Jeremy Landry, Patton Baugh and Austin Storm) by Mark Taylor; “Laura” by Lennie Niehaus and “Do You Dig It, Man?” by Conrad Johnson.
Jazz I, directed by Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz Studies Larry Jones, will also perform. The program will include “Pleasin’” by Lennie Niehaus; “But Beautiful” by Stan Kenton; “Lady Is A Tramp” by Rogers & Hart and “Stompin’ at the Savoy” by Sampson, arranged by Bill Holman
“Jazz is alive and growing at UCA,” Robertson said. “We have multiple ensembles and tons of jazz lovers everywhere.
