AWARD-WINNING INTERACTIVE SCULPTURES
TO BE INSTALLED DURING CONWAY’S ARTSFEST

CONWAY — The Baum Gallery of Fine Art at the University of Central Arkansas will present two interactive sculptures by acclaimed Colorado-based artist Jen Lewin, Oct. 3-5 as part of Conway’s ArtsFest.
Both public art installations are free and open to the public.
The Pool is an interactive sculptural installation made up of 120 circular platforms that respond to physical movement with rippling patterns of light and color. It will be open to the public nightly Oct. 3-5 from 5-10 p.m. in UCA’s Alumni Circle.
The Chandelier Harp is a sculpture utilizing software that creates sound when viewers break its beams of light. This piece will be located in Simon Park in downtown Conway nightly Oct. 3-5 from 5-10 p.m.
“Today’s artists are not just painting pictures and taking photographs,” said Barclay McConnell, director of the Baum Gallery. “They are creating experiences.”
Lewin, who is coming to UCA as an artist in residence, has had her interactive artworks displayed all over the world and The Pool and The Chandelier Harp have won many prestigious art awards.
“These artworks will appeal to viewers of all ages and backgrounds,” McConnell said. “And tech-minded people and gamers will especially love them.”
The installation of the two sculptures will be part of ArtsFest, Conway’s annual celebration of the arts. Live DJs are scheduled for The Pool installation at Alumni Circle as well as light-up hula-hoop performances. On Thursday, Oct. 4, there will be two dance performances by CORE Performance Company at 6 and 6:30 p.m.
McConnell said the Lewin exhibition was made possible by a collaboration of UCA and community organizations. The Conway Chamber of Commerce, Conway Advertising and Promotion Commission, UCA’s Artist in Residence program and UCA’s Student Government Association were all contributors.
